TOOMPUP SCHOOL UPDATED

The need arose for a school in the Toompup area after the teachers quarters from the East Ongerup School were moved to Toompup Siding and re-erected as a school room 150 yards west of the CBH Bin. The building was constructed of weatherboard, lined with wooden dodo and asbestos with as iron roof, it had a verandah front and back, the verandah on the north side was enclosed. An open fireplace was used for heating during the winter, and there were two rainwater tanks. The Toompup School opened on 9th April 1923 and was located near the old Toompup Siding, 10 miles west of Ongerup.

All the children played cricket and football and were encouraged to plant trees around the school with the result that all that remains of the site today is a sugar gum, a pine tree and four small acacia trees. There is also two gate posts.
A corall of bush timber and brush was built some 100 yards from the building for the horses. The boys set fire to this one day.
